Former members
Deferred pensioners
Deferred pensioners are people who left employment covered by the Civil
Service pension scheme and who are due to receive their Civil Service
pension when they reach scheme pension age (usually age 60).
If you are a deferred pensioner, you should write to Capita Hartshead at
the address below to claim your pension three months before you reach
scheme pension age (usually age 60).
Keeping you up to date
As a deferred member, you are still a member of the Civil Service pension
scheme, and we have designed this section of the website to keep you
up-to-date with things that might interest you.
Proposals for changes to the Civil Service pension scheme
The Cabinet Office launched proposals for changes to the scheme on 9
January 2007. Unless the Civil Service re-employs you on or after 1 July
2007, these changes will not affect your pension.
Annual benefit statements
Capita Hartshead can provide you with an annual statement of the value of
your pension. If you left the Civil Service before October 2002 and have
not been in touch with Capita Hartshead since they became responsible for
paying Civil Service pensions, it would be a good idea to write to them
now, quoting your National Insurance number. This is so they can note your
current address and begin to send you annual statements of the current
value of your deferred pension benefits.
On line access
You can also view the current value of your deferred pension benefits by
registering with the pensioner website. Please visit csp.capitahartshead.co.uk[External website] for further details.
Pensions and Tax
You may know that the Government simplified the tax rules for pensions from
6 April 2006 (also referred to as A-day). The Pensions and Tax section of our website is
designed to help you understand the changes and how they may affect you.
Administering your Civil Service pension
Capita Hartshead is responsible for administering your deferred pension.
Capita Hartshead provides this service under contract to the Cabinet
Office, who manage the Civil Service pension schemes.
You should contact them if you have any queries about your pension.
How to contact Capita Hartshead
The telephone lines are open from 8.30am to 6pm Monday to Friday. However,
the lines are always extremely busy on a Monday. If your call is not urgent
you may find it more convenient to telephone between Tuesday and Friday.
Please do not use email to notify changes of address. These must still be
notified by telephone, by letter or by the pensioners’ secure website csp.capitahartshead.co.uk[External website] .
