Registering your choice
Once you have decided on your pension choice, you will need to complete
your PensionChoices form and return it to the
address on the form. If you choose partnership, you must
also fill in the partnership pension provider’s
application form and return this to your employer or pensions administrator
as well. If you make your decision before you start work, we suggest that
you bring your PensionChoices form and, if
relevant, your chosen provider’s application form with you on your first
day.
If you choose to join nuvos
The PensionChoices form also gives you the
opportunity to:
-
name someone to receive any lump sum that we will pay if you die in
service
-
attach a partner declaration form
-
ask about transferring in benefits from another employer’s pension scheme
-
ask about linking any service from an earlier period in the Civil
Service pension scheme and
-
ask for information about increasing your pension benefits..
Remember that there are 12-month time limits for transferring benefits
from another scheme and for linking previous service in the Civil
Service pension scheme.
If you choose to open a partnership pension account
The PensionChoices form also asks you to:
-
say which pension provider you have chosen to invest your pension fund;
and
-
say how much you want to contribute each month (as a percentage of your
pay). You do not have to contribute, but if you do, your employer will
make extra contributions to match yours (up to 3% of your pay). The ready
reckoner under the partnership scheme outline will help
you work out what this means in terms of pounds each month.
You must also fill in your chosen pension provider’s application form and
return this, with your PensionChoices form, to
the address on the form. If you are not sure how to fill in the provider’s
application form, phone them for help.
You have a choice of different providers for your
partnership pension account:
You may want to contact more than one provider so you can compare what they
are offering.
The PensionChoices form also asks you to name
someone to receive any lump sum that we will pay if you die in service.
