Partners
nuvos
The nuvos scheme rules provide pensions for three types of dependants of scheme members:
- widows, widowers and civil partners – for more information see the nuvos scheme outline
- children – for more information see the nuvos scheme outline
- surviving partners of people who are in relationships but who are not married or in a civil partnership (including same-sex relationships).
The nuvos scheme rules provide for an unmarried partner’s pension if you have nominated your partner and, together, you complete a joint declaration of partnership, and at the time of your death:
- you and your partner were living together in an exclusive committed long-term relationship
- you and your partner were free to marry (opposite sex couples) or enter a civil partnership (same sex couples)
- either your partner was financially dependent on you or the two of you were financially interdependent.
To find out more about the qualifying conditions for an unmarried partner’s pension, and how we work out the pension, see the following booklet: Pensions for partners [PDF 368KB, 12 pages].
Death benefit nomination
You can name a person or people to receive any lump sum that we pay when you die. To do so, you will need to complete the death benefit nomination form for classic plus, nuvos and premium [MS Word 50KB, 2 pages].
If you decide to name more than one person, you can say how much you would like each person to receive. If you do not mention the share (as a percentage or a fraction) we will pay each person you have named an equal amount.
If you name your husband, wife or civil partner, and your marriage or civil partnership then ends, they will no longer be entitled to any lump sum unless you re-nominate them.
